Resident Assistants & Sophomore Advisers

Your Resident Assistants and Sophomore Advisers will get to know you, build community in your hall, organize fun events, and support you during your time living on campus. They generally make Rose-Hulman more fun!

Students supporting students

Our Resident Assistant staff is responsible for providing an enjoyable environment for students living in the residence halls. They act as a resource to all students, promote floor activities and campus-wide events, provide hall education programs, enforce campus policies, and make the Rose experience fun!

RAs in freshman halls receive backup from our Sophomore Adviser staff, also known as our SAs. They live on the freshman floors (two per floor) and help make the transition to college easier. They organize activities, encourage people to get out of their rooms and meet people, and help the RAs build a floor community. We are extremely proud of the community feeling that is created by the RAs and SAs on each floor throughout the year.

In addition, three professional staff members live in our residence halls: Kyle Washburn, Alex Astiazaran, and LeAnne Myers. A team of three Graduate Assistants also provides additional supervision: Lauren Rexing, Breanna Cook, and Maggie LaBarr.

Graduate Assistants

The Office of Student Affairs employs two graduate assistants (GAs) throughout the year. In addition to their responsibilities within Student Affairs, each GA has another area of focus regarding campus life. 

Maggie LaBarr is a 2025 Rose-Hulman graduate from Gas City, IN and is currently a Master’s candidate in the Engineering Management program at Rose-Hulman. Maggie works with the Learning Center to provide academic support programs within each upperclassmen Hall;

Samuel Otto is a 2026 Rose-Hulman graduate from Haubstadt, IN and is currently a Master’s candidate in the Engineering Management program at Rose-Hulman. Samuel works in the Career Services office where he coordinates Career Fairs and other campus-wide events.
