Rose-Hulman’s Oakley Observatory will host a series of free, public open houses to learn about astronomy, beginning on July 25.

Rose-Hulman's Oakley Observatory will host a series of free, public, open houses to celebrate the skies and observe the horizons. The first open house will be held July 25 from 10 p.m. to midnight. In case of rain or clouds, an alternative date is planned for July 26, also at 10 p.m.

Additional open houses will be held throughout the year to allow observation of the sky's changes from season to season. Upcoming dates include August 22, October 3, and October 24, 2025.

Founded in 2000 through a grant from the Oakley Foundation, the observatory features a wide variety of telescopes and other equipment necessary for study of the night sky. The Oakley Observatory is located on the east end of campus, near the Hunt Road entrance. Parking is available in the commuter lot near the bonfire field, also by the Hunt Road entrance. Access to Oakley Observatory requires climbing two flights of outdoor stairs and is not wheelchair accessible.View the event flyer for more information and a map for parking.
