Students Showcase Many Performing Talents in ‘Engineers in Concert’

The musical and dancing talents of more than 40 students, along with several faculty and staff, filled the Hatfield Hall Theater stage as soloists, ensembles, and groups in this year’s Engineers In Concert.
Students, faculty, and staff of the nation’s leading college for science, engineering, and mathematics once again showcased their singing, instrumental, and dancing talents in the annual Engineers in Concert on the Hatfield Hall Theater stage.
Now in its 44th year, this concert featured more than 40 students from nearly every academic major performing in a variety of solo acts and groups. There also were performances by the Rose Chorus, concert band, a dance company, a jazz combo, an acapella ensemble, a family bluegrass group, and a barbershop quartet.
Erin Cass, Vincent Hammer, Abby Hileman, Nathan Rosmarin, and James Zesinger presented Mason Lynass’ “Tesserae” in a percussion ensemble, and Hammer and Rosmarin performed an arrangement of “Apierophobia” as a vibraphone duet.
Vocal soloists were Eliska Whited, presenting Mitski’s “Bag of Bones,” and Grace Sheridan (accompanied by pianist Owen Dixon) performed “The Girl in 14G” by Jeanine Tesori and Dick Scanlan.
Meanwhile, violinist Mindy Altschul performed her own arrangement of the “Butterfly Lover’s Violin Concerto” and cellist Joseph Zeru presented his own “Running Around the World’s Shoulder.” Sandya Suresh graced the stage with her Bharatanatyam dance performance of Gangai Muttu Nattuvanar’s version of “Natesha Kauthuvam.”
The show’s producer Norm Hanson performed a trombone solo highlighting Portraits of New Orleans, including “St. Louis Cathedral” and “Preservation Hall,” accompanied by music professor David Chapman, PhD.
Other student performances are being planned for the rest of the school year. For more information on other Hatfield Hall Theater events, visit www.hatfieldhall.com.
