Swearingen Leadership Series: Lolo Jones

Apr 2, 2026, 5:30PM - 6:30PM
Location: On-Campus

Lolo Jones is a 3x Summer and Winter Olympian who competes in both Track & Field and Bobsled. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Lolo overcame a difficult childhood - at times her family was homeless, even living in the basement of a Salvation Army. She went on to attend Louisiana State University, where she competed on a Track & Field scholarship and earned three NCAA gold medals. After turning pro, Lolo specialized in the 60m and 100m hurdle races. She was heavily favored to win gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics but stumbled on the final hurdle, finishing in 7th place. Undeterred, she returned in 2009 to win the national indoor 60m hurdles and followed it up with a gold medal at the 2010 World Indoor Championships. At the 2012 London Olympics, she finished fourth in the 100m hurdles. Lolo later transitioned to Bobsled, competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics and winning gold at the 2021 Bobsled World Championships. In 2024, she made history by becoming the oldest athlete to qualify for the finals at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Track & Field. Outside of sports, Lolo has become a media personality, appearing on Dancing With The Stars, Celebrity Big Brother, The Challenge, and more. She is also the author of Over It: How to Face Life's Hurdles with Grit, Hustle, and Grace, which chronicles her remarkable journey. From the track to the ice, Lolo continues to inspire fans with her unmatched work ethic, authenticity, and passion for sport.
